1

Tax Advice in Mallorca

Which taxes does a self-employed person (autónomo) have to file in the Balearic Islands? +
A self-employed person (autónomo) in the Balearic Islands must file VAT returns quarterly (Modelo 303, the quarterly VAT return), the personal income tax payments on account (Modelo 130, the quarterly IRPF instalment) and the corresponding information returns. Annually, the personal income tax return (IRPF) and the annual VAT summary (Modelo 390). At Pro Quo we take care of all of this paperwork so that you can focus on your business.
How can I legally reduce my company's tax burden in Mallorca? +
There are a number of legal strategies: optimising investment-related deductions, applying deductible expenses correctly, taking advantage of the reliefs specific to the Balearic Islands and choosing the most efficient corporate structure. We analyse your particular case in order to design tailored tax planning.
What are the deadlines for filing quarterly VAT and personal income tax returns? +
The quarterly deadlines are: 1 to 20 April (Q1), 1 to 20 July (Q2), 1 to 20 October (Q3) and 1 to 30 January of the following year (Q4). We keep track of every deadline and give you advance notice so that you avoid surcharges.
What specific tax deductions are available to companies in the Balearic Islands? +
The Balearic Islands have their own regional deductions within personal income tax (IRPF) for housing, family and investment, as well as tax incentives for certain economic activities. There are also specific reliefs within corporate income tax for small companies and start-ups. We advise you on every one you are entitled to claim.
What is the tax difference between operating as a self-employed person (autónomo) and as a limited company? +
A self-employed person pays personal income tax (IRPF) at progressive rates of up to 47%. A limited company (sociedad limitada) pays corporate income tax: in 2026, if its turnover is under €1 million, it pays 19% on the first €50,000 of profit and 21% on the rest (the standard rate is 25%), and a newly created company pays 15% in its first two profitable years. The right choice depends on your income, your costs and your personal circumstances. We help you work out which is more advantageous for you.
What is the Balearic Investment Reserve and is it worth it for me? +
It is a tax incentive specific to the Balearic Islands: it lets you reduce corporate income tax (or personal income tax, if you are self-employed under direct assessment) by setting aside part of your profit in a reserve that must then be invested in the islands within a maximum of three years. We work out whether it pays off for you, calculate the allocation and make sure it is invested on time to avoid tax adjustments.
I've received a letter from the Spanish tax office. What should I do? +
Don't leave it: many have short deadlines of 10 working days. Send it to us as soon as you get it (a photo or the PDF by WhatsApp or email); we review it, explain what it asks for and prepare the reply, appeal or payment, as appropriate.

Accounting for companies in the Balearic Islands

What does the accounting service for my company include? +
It includes recording every accounting transaction, preparing the official books, the annual accounts, balance sheets, the profit and loss account, and regular reporting with key ratios and indicators so that you always have a clear picture of the financial health of your business.
Do I need analytical accounting or is basic bookkeeping enough? +
If you want to make decisions based on real data about profitability by product, service or department, you need analytical accounting. Basic bookkeeping meets your legal obligations, but analytical accounting gives you a competitive edge. We advise you according to the size and needs of your company.
How often will I receive accounting reports on my business? +
Quarterly as a minimum, in line with the tax filings. That said, many of our clients receive monthly reports. We adapt the frequency to your needs and give you access to the information whenever you need it.
What documents do you need in order to handle my accounts? +
Mainly sales and purchase invoices, bank statements, payroll and social security records, any relevant contracts and receipts for expenses. We work with shared digital folders (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive) so that you can send us the documentation conveniently and securely.
Can I change accountants halfway through the year without losing accounting information? +
Yes, it is perfectly possible. We coordinate with your previous firm to obtain all the accounting and tax information accumulated so far. We carry out a full review and pick the accounts up again with no interruption and no loss of data.
What do I receive each quarter? +
Before we file, a summary of what you will pay for each tax, compared with the previous quarter, and what can be deferred. Plus your profit and loss month by month, so you can see how your business is doing without having to ask.
3

Wealth and Tax Planning in Mallorca

What does wealth and tax planning involve? +
We look at your wealth as a whole (property, investments, savings and your company) and work out how to organise it so that it is protected and pays no more tax than it should: corporate structure, property ownership, the taxation of your investments and succession.
Do you advise on property investment in Mallorca? +
Yes. Mallorca is a property market with its own particular features. We advise you on the taxation of buying and selling, on holiday and residential lettings, on the licences you need and on the optimal structure (individual vs company) to maximise the return on your investment.
How can I protect my wealth against inflation? +
From the tax and wealth-planning side: how, and in whose name, to invest; when to sell or distribute; which savings products carry tax advantages; and which structure suits you. We do not manage portfolios or sell financial products: we help your investment decisions pay less tax.
Do you help the self-employed plan for retirement? +
Yes. Self-employed people (autónomos) do not have the same protection as employees. We look at how each savings product is taxed (pension plans, insurance, direct investment) and how and when to draw on it, so that you reach retirement paying no more tax than you need to.
Can I combine the tax, accounting and wealth planning services? +
That is what we would recommend. When we manage all three areas in an integrated way the synergies are enormous: the tax strategy is aligned with the accounts, and both with your wealth planning. We offer combined packages on special terms.

Did you miss anything?

How do we start working with ProQuo Asesores? +
First we get to know each other, in person or by email. Then we prepare a detailed quote. Finally, if we are a good fit, we start work. No complications.
How much does a tax advisor in Mallorca cost? +
Our fees depend on the project and its complexity. We give you a detailed, fixed quote before we start, with no minimum contract.
Is it complicated to change advisors? +
It is straightforward. We get in touch with them directly and coordinate everything so that it is done quickly and properly.
Do I have to come to the ProQuo office? +
There is no need. We work digitally, with Google Drive, Dropbox, One Drive or whatever you use. But we also hold as many face-to-face meetings as are needed.
Is there a minimum contract period for the advisory service? +
NO, no minimum period of any kind. The moment it stops working, we each go our own way. Frankly, though, it rarely happens.
Do you handle non-resident taxes in the Balearic Islands? +
Yes. We handle taxes for non-residents with a home, rental income or property sales in the Balearic Islands (form 210 and withholdings), and we help foreigners settling in Mallorca: registering as self-employed or setting up a company, tax residence and Spanish filing obligations. We work in English. More for foreigners and non-residents →
Do you handle grants and subsidies? +
Yes. We apply for grants for the self-employed and companies in the Balearic Islands, such as Quota Zero (the regional government's support for self-employed social security contributions) or ISBA-guaranteed financing, and we let you know about the calls that fit your situation.
